slightly more progress

Tuesday, 18 October 2011
Finally have some time to keep working since we're between major projects right now. The calendar is coming along nicely, functionality wise, and now the last bits to be cleared up are adding gear to event components, gear groups, and some customization options.

The code is much cleaner now, but it doesn't quite fit with the object oriented code of the rest of the site. I guess some exceptions wll have to be made for ajax, but it works as a standalone piece. Once I finish it up, I'll work on refactoring it.

After the calendar/log I need to get the gallery and image system working to get the customization where I want it. After that will be a slight redesign and css update for full screen and mobile.

Guestimated timeline: I could probably have the calendar integrated by New Years and the rest depends on the work schedule.

For tri-it-all, I'll look into a ready-made platform like drupal. I definitely want to make that happen, even if it ends up a failure, because "you never know" and if I end up making money on it I win. :-)

Less progress

I haven't really touched the core code on here since January. What I have been working on is the updated calendar. It will feature more custom options than I had thought of previously: bike builds (keep track of wear on individual components like the tires, chain, and cassette), event types (select a 5k, you get a 3.1 mile run; select an ironman, you get a 2.1 mile swim, t1, 112 mile bike, t2, and a 26.2 mile run), and a better organized interface among other things.

I don't have a lot of time to work on this as the new job keeps me busy constantly and I've barely had a weekend to use, but I'll keep plugging away at it. Pretty sure I'll have the calendar before the gallery at this point. Hopefully I'll work out how to make it all interconnect soon.

More progress

Finally got the basic tables for the galleries and sport logs set up so I can finally get some work done on those. I just remembered that if I want these parts linked together more tightly I'm going to have to work out some kind of system on the post entry page so that these can be linked either with tags or links or something right in the text. I can try to link tags with bbcode and text replacement perhaps....

Anyway, that and realizing I screwed up the navigation building are the only things that have gone on. I should be able to get more progress under way soon and possibly get some initial work done on my new project concept I'm envisioning setting it up as a product/race review site with links to shopping for products, some basic price comparisons and eventually set it up similar to other triathlon communities like beginner triathlete and trifuel. I may even make a run at actually running the site as a commercial endevour. We'll see.

More news as it comes
